"Suicide Squad" is a superhero film based on the DC Comics antihero team of the same name. The movie was released in 2016 and directed by David Ayer. It is part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
The film features an ensemble cast, including Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as the Joker, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and many others.
The plot centers around Amanda Waller, a high-ranking government official, who assembles a team of dangerous incarcerated supervillains to execute covert black-ops missions for the government in exchange for reduced prison sentences. The team is known as the Suicide Squad.
The members of the squad include Deadshot, a skilled marksman and assassin; Harley Quinn, the Joker's former psychiatrist turned criminal accomplice; Diablo, a metahuman with pyrokinetic abilities; Killer Croc, a reptilian humanoid with enhanced strength and regenerative abilities; Captain Boomerang, an expert with boomerangs; and Enchantress, a powerful sorceress possessed by an ancient entity.
As the Suicide Squad embarks on their first mission, they must confront a powerful and supernatural threat unleashed by Enchantress, who has turned against Waller's control. The squad must work together, despite their differences and personal agendas, to save the world from destruction and to earn their freedom.
"Suicide Squad" received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success, grossing over $700 million worldwide. The film's portrayal of Harley Quinn, in particular, received praise, leading to the character's further development in subsequent DCEU films, such as "Birds of Prey" (2020) and "The Suicide Squad" (2021).
